How do I keep the baby safe and warm?

Did you know that when a baby is too warm they are at an increased risk of death? So what can you do to keep a baby from becoming overheated? Follow these simple rules:

  • Place the baby on his/her back
  • No blankets.
  • No hats.

Make sure your baby is dressed appropriately for their environment and does not have too many extra layers on.
Example:  Wearing a sleeper onesie, a wearable blanket, with another blanket on top.

Just remember, that your infant should always be dressed appropriately for the environment, with no more than 1 layer more than what adults need to be comfortable.

Remember to look for the signs of an overheating infant such as sweating or if the infant’s chest is hot to the touch.
